About us

The Villa Fuchs County Cultural Center has existed since 1987 and initially served as a design school. Its focus at that time was different from today, with courses in all types of art. Both the performing as well as the visual arts played a great role in the course offerings at that time. In the 1990s, the Villa Fuchs County Cultural Center developed more and more into an organizer of cultural events and cultural services, originally in Merzig and then later in all the towns of the Merzig-Wadern County. Not only Germany’s most famous cabaret artists have appeared on the Villa Fuchs cabaret stage, but also younger unknowns have received the opportunity to perform and have thus been able to introduce themselves to the public. The Villa Fuchs County Cultural Center has always considered itself a promoter of regional artists and will continue to do so in the future.

We helped organize cultural initiatives such as Rock am See (Rock at the Lake) or Opera in the Circus Tent and also supported them financially and logistically. In addition, we have helped create numerous cultural series. The Luxembourg Film Festival caused quite a stir in the county seat from 1991 to 1994. The Merzig Children’s Cultural Summer is still an important element in the cultural life of Merzig. The Merzig Children’s Festival has been under the auspices of the Villa Fuchs since 1994 and is organized every year within the Merzig United Clubs. This festival is now one of the largest children’s festivals in state of Saarland. Every year, more than 3,000 children come to the festival and are delighted by the widely diverse activities.

Since 2009, the county seat Merzig has commissioned the Villa Fuchs County Cultural Center to organize Merzig’s cultural activities. Thus the center is responsible for the music and theater series, numerous exhibitions, and cultural events gaining recognition beyond the city’s boundaries. In 2012, the Literature Festival was added to the district SaarSchleifenLand (Saar Bend Country). For the premiere, the Villa Fuchs has succeeded in attracting top-quality authors. The Literature Festival will assuredly be permanently established in the county seat’s cultural calendar and in the towns of the county.
